I have the same problem on a Hercules EC-800 (very cheap 8" notebook).
Kernel  2.6.32-24-generic #39-Ubuntu (installed from xubuntu "lucid"
10.04).  Ressources on this "machine" are low (20 GB hard drive, etc.),
so testing is hard.
