Public bug reported:

The built-in mic is detected as a stereo mic; I thought that was wrong
but looking at other posts it may be one mic for recording + one for
noise cancellation?

Either way, by default both channels of input are at 100%, and nothing
is picked up. After installing pavucontrol to control the channels
independently and using it to mute one, sound works with a lot of noise.
I guess this supports the noise cancellation theory? (muting the second
mic = no noise detected = no noise cancelled; second mic on full volume
= detects the same as the primary mic = cancels all sound)

I'm not sure exactly how it's *supposed* to work, but "allow everything,
including noise" and "cancel everything, including signal" are both bad
:(
