Public bug reported:

My USB ethernet thing worked a couple of years ago, I've not needed it
for ages; now I do, it doesn't work :(

I plug it in and dmesg says:

[ 197.702118] usb 3-2.4: new full speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 7
[ 199.091315] usb 3-2.4: device descriptor read/64, error -62
[ 199.366406] usb 3-2.4: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
[ 199.385529] dm9601: disagrees about version of symbol usbnet_set_msglevel
[ 199.385539] dm9601: Unknown symbol usbnet_set_msglevel
[ 199.386408] dm9601: disagrees about version of symbol usbnet_change_mtu
[ 199.386414] dm9601: Unknown symbol usbnet_change_mtu
[ 199.386957] dm9601: disagrees about version of symbol usbnet_get_msglevel
[ 199.386962] dm9601: Unknown symbol usbnet_get_msglevel
...

lsusb says "Bus 003 Device 007: ID 0a46:9601 Davicom Semiconductor, Inc.
DM9601 Fast Ethernet Adapter"

Bug #285552 seems to be the same issue in hardy, but was marked "Fixed
in intrepid" and I can't tell why, I'm using 10.04.1 and it's broken
again...
