Thanks for the kind and quick reply!

sorry -I forgot to tell- but I failed to install to install Ubuntu on
the raid, so I popped in an old HD and / is on that drive (stat is the
/dev/sde). The raid is only for data.

Linux sees the raid drives as /dev/sda, /dev/sdb, /dev/sdc, and /dev/sdd

I confirm that on my pc power off and de-connecting power cable both put
the raid in offline-member.
