i can confirm this as well.

turning audio off in bios dose stop this message. is this a kernel issue
or is this a pulse audio problem. cause it seems this sound problem
showed up for me when ubuntu went to pulse audio. and each version got
worse on the sound issues. with 9.10 being the worst(now into 10.04)

this box is one i built from parts so it not a normal OEM (dell,hp,ect)
so some of the "fixes" i have seen never worked for me
