[Bug 571807] [NEW] Lucid fails to spin down hard-drive on shutdown

On shutting down Lucid (Final release candidate) on my Acer Aspire One,
it seems to exit rather abruptly, and the hard drive gives a 'popping'
sound, as if the machine had just been turned off without properly
shutting down.  I'm a little concerned about what this might eventually
do to the hard drive.
