I had this issue as well as USB drives and optical discs refusing to
auto-mount. See Bug #546992 . Both were solved by either inserting my
removable floppy drive or disabling the floppy controller in the BIOS.
It would be interesting to know how many other systems affected by this
bug have floppy controllers with no drive attached.
