Hi Jeremy,
Thank you for your letter. I have installed Karmic to my internal hdd and
now it works like a charm. It's way way better than any Vista, Win7 or
anything I ever tried before. I really do not have any further info on
Karmic on external drive. If there has not been any activity then the
problem is probably still there (I never had any problem that just went away
after a while, I had to make it go away :-) ). I'm sorry that I cannot help
you with this. At least, you know what hardware I used so maybe you can try
this on your side. Here is what I had: Acer 5610 laptop and Transcend USB
HDD 250GB with 50GB Linux partition.
The only thing that really bothers me now with this install of Karmic on
internal drive is the lack of TV-out utility for Intel graphic cards. This
is a feature that no one is using every day but it's really a helluva
situation when you need it and it turns out to be a problem. I get the
picture on TV if I plug the TV out before starting but if Karmic is alrerady
on and I try to swithch to TV - no way. Also, there was a whole bunch of
info on this issue but it's not really useful for an Average Joe. What we
need is a user friendly solution. I don't consider myself quite as average
but I did not have the time to mingle with this the whole day so guess
what?... I booted into stupid Vista and I had all the options I needed.
That's too bad. If the Linux people want to conquer Windows once and for all
then this feature is A MUST.
