I have a Netgear GA511 gigabit networking card installed in a Compaq
nx7400 laptop connected to a 1G capable network. This card worked very
well with Ubuntu 7.04 and 7.10. Once I upgraded to 8.04 and then 8.10
it does not work well. At first I thought it did not work at all since
the Link/Act led remained off . I had several of my Linux expert
buddies look into this and they could not figure out the problem
especially since the card is listed on the HCL and I have the
corresponding kernel module installed.

However, I have found that if I keep the laptop turned on, with the card
installed and connected to the 1G network it will "wake up" and work
properly after 3-8 hours. For laptops this is a problem since they are
not generally left on this long.

I am running 8.10 with all updates
The driver is: r8169

I have attached the output of lspci -vvnn and dmesg for your reference.
This output was generated after the card started functioning.

** Affects: linux (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: Incomplete
