Public bug reported:

This problem started with Ubuntu 9.10. After some particular upgrade of Ubuntu 9.10, after switching into my ubuntu 9.10, I find that my sound device is shown as "Dummy Output". Then I tried with the different ALSA commands, so as to find a work-around. I found one.
I type in 'sudo alsa force-reload' in the terminal every time I start my laptop. Then my actual sound-driver gets loaded, and my sound starts working. Now, I installed a fresh version of Ubuntu 10.04 Beta2(i.e, I didn't do any upgrade from Ubuntu 9.10). My sound was working fine, but after and update today, the problem started in Ubuntu 10.04 Beta too.
My device was shown as "Dummy putput", and I had to use the above-said command to load my actual sound-driver. Ubuntu 9.04 had no such problems.
