Just to complete the data collection and followup to the IRC discussion
with Andy:

 * Same result with VGA instead of DVI

 * When I force the resolution in xorg.conf, it works:

Section "Screen"
	Identifier "MyScreen"

	SubSection "Display"
		Modes "1280x1024"
	EndSubSection
EndSection
