My IBM Thinkpad X40 has model 2372KG5. I could not reproduce this issue
when I booted Lucid beta 1 from DVD:

*ubuntu-10.04-beta1-dvd-i386.iso

I selected "Sleep" from the power menu at the top right, then resumed
(once by pressing "Fn", a second time by closing and opening the lid).
After resume from Sleep I got a black screen but a single keypress
brought me back to my login session.
