After using this adapter for quite a while now I think there is nothing
wrong with the actual quality of reception because I get significantly
better performance from it than from my internal wifi adapter, which is
exactly what I would expect to happen. By "better" I mean that it can
see access points the other cannot, and that it can often connect to
those at higher speeds with less packet loss.

The only problem is that the signal strength it reports to the kernel is
always much lower than that reported by my other device. However it does
appear to report the relative signal strengths of the wifi devices in
its vicinity correctly. In other words the device is entirely usable as
it is. This bug is disconcerting if you don't know what's happening, but
it doesn't significantly impair the usability of the device.
