i installed 2.6.28-15-generic #50~lp389040oga3 and found that the
internal mic doesn't work.  i tried modifying levels in alsamixer and
the builtin gnome mixer without any luck

1) playback through internal speakers: OK
2) speakers mute when headphones plugged in (and sound is heard through headphones): OK
3) recording through the internal mic: Not OK
4) recording through an external mic: not tested
