I am under the impression that a wide range of intel grafic cards has the same problem or similar problems with controlling the backlight under KMS. Searching the bugs and forums certainly indicates that. I can't understand why intel is not fixing this. I bought intel onboard because I thought they were cool with linux and GPL. Maybe I am just to inpatient but it wouldn't be no unnecessary luxury to have this in the final karmic release.
