Public bug reported:

I have a Gigabyte GA-MA790XT-UDP4 motherboard with integrated inboard
gigabit ethernet Realtek 8111DL chip.

The bug: cannot connect to ethernet LAN network card.
Distribution: Ubuntu (amd64) 10.04 Lucid pre-alfa1 (fully updated).
Kernel version: 2.6.32.4.4
Driver module: r8169 (kernel module)
Product: RTL8111/8168B PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet controller
Vendor: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd.
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition

When I start the system, it is unable during boot-up to connect to RTL8111/8168B network card, not even eth0 is created.
This may be a lucid kernel regression.

Note that with karmic kernel 2.6.31.15.28 I have always been able to connect this network card.
Also with this fully updated Lucid I am able to connect this card every time I use the karmic kernel 2.6.31.15.28, but never with lucid kernel 2.6.32.4.4. Not even if I restart the system 10-20 times.
So this bug can be ~100 % reproduced.

I have also tried compiling the Realtek version 8.014.00 (the latest
version August 2009) of the r8168 driver from www.realtek.com.tw. But
with I was unable to make a clean module for the 2.6.32 kernel.
