My Modem Model: E160E, but it shows up as 
Bus 002 Device 010: ID 12d1:1003 Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. E220 HSDPA Modem / E270 HSDPA/HSUPA Modem
in lsusb.

Attached dmesg and usbmon output from using 2.6.31-15-generic from
karmic-proposed.

Still doesn't work, and I am still considering whether I want to try the
upgrade above as my modem's firmware is newer than the one in the zip
file.
