I have the kernel 2.6.31-14-generic (which should be an up-to-date
karmic) and my Huawei E160G needs to be plugged in already before
startup of the system to make it work - at least for my last 3 attempts
to use that mobile internet modem that was the only way to get it to
work (did not try the manual loading of modules).
