This problem is really hardware dependent. It shows up on HP Pavilion dv5000 independent of the distro (Ubuntu, Arch, Gentoo, latest).
But on my new Acer Aspire 7730G and Acer TravelMate 5310 of my friend everything works fine.

So I think there is a bug in the hardware, that windows apparently knows
how to fix/deal with it at runtime, while linux kernel don't.
