Hello Hélio,
  Thanks for your workaround. Initially it didn't work on my Toshiba Satellite L40-14N. I then figured out I had to make the file executable with the command:
sudo chmod +x 09_rtl8187_workaround
and now it works. I can now suspend. I still can't hybernate, but that's another issue and doesn't bother me so much.
