@vk: cat /proc/mdstat indicated a different array - one that I did not
build. It must have build it automatically (md_d1). Upon deleting this
"other" array (md_d1), i was able to build a new array. It seems as if
mdadm tried to build a broken array from one of the disks that still had
the previous raid settings, which would explain why that one drive was
unable to be used.
