You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I have a cheapo internal card reader that worked fine in Intrepid.
After upgrade to Jaunty RC 64 bit, I just tried to use it to read an 8GB
Sandisk card. Upon inserting the card, the status light on the reader
lit up, but Ubuntu did not mount it. This was confirmed by the lack of
/dev/sd[c...], since i have working /dev/sda and /dev/sdb hard drives.
After inserting a Cruzer USB disk into the card reader's USB port, it
mounted as /dev/sdc, and recognised the readers available (SD and a few
other formats) by mounting them at /dev/sd[d-g]. However, it is still
not recognising that a card is inserted. In nautilus, the readers are
visible by their respective port type (SD, SmartMedia, etc)

In Intrepid, the various readers were recognised and displayed in
nautilus as they currently do regardless of if a card was inserted.
This is also the windows behaviour.

Based on my inquiries in IRC, I have attached the related messages from
/var/log/messages and the output from "sudo lsusb -vvv"
