I would point out firstly that this is a thread for the RTL-8185, while the 'duplicate' thread is for the 8180 driver (is there a difference or are Realtek just baffling us with numbers?)
Also, I have the same problem with my fresh install of 8.10, both with the kernel that came with the CD and with 2.6.27-11-generic, which I'm using now; and with all kernels in between.
This is a rather frustrating issue since my Eee PC with what one would assume to be an 'inferior' built-in card can get thrice the signal strength, from sat on top of my desktop (which has a PCI card made by 'Micronet' containing the above chipset).
Would someone please update this bug report and its (possibly not a) duplicate, and let us know of progress?
** Attachment added: "This is the bug manifesting within the same distance as gives 65-75% on my Eee."
