After further testing, I have the following working:

bonding of 2 intel pro/1000 MT nics (e1000) driver.
bonding of 2 broadcom netextrem2 nics (bnx2) driver.

bonding of 1 intel pro/1 broadcom netextreme (desktop) (tg3) driver. is
broken. it seems that open trying this combination, the intel nic ends
up sending lacp requests, and the broadcom becomes the active nic. The
intel nic is show in the "suspended" state on the cisco switch.

As far as I understand the bonding module sits above the driver layer so
you should be able to bond 2 different nics. Is this an error in the
bonding module or is tg3 or e1000 doing something weird? I have no
idea, but will provide any info needed to figure this out.
