@Thomas - I had the exact same problem, but I worked around it by
adjusting the level of the mic boost and the level of the capture to get
it just right. I tested it with skype and sound recorder. Once I did not
have the problem, I just set skype in the preferences so it would not
adjust my volume. That is why I said further up that this is obviously a
major workaround... at least it is a workaround that seems to work.
