Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-image-generic

Hello

Every time when I try to mount my flash drive and ntfs filesystems with Cyrillic filenames on newly installed ubuntu, I have problems with charset. I have to configure fstab
('iocharset=utf8' for FAT, something like a 'nls=utf8' for NTFS)

Even windows uses unicode, but ubuntu uses strange 1byte charsets((((. From config-2.6.27-11-generic
CONFIG_NLS_DEFAULT="cp437"
CONFIG_FAT_DEFAULT_IOCHARSET="iso8859-1"

** Affects: linux-meta (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
