We have the same results as Chris has:

With Ubuntu 2.6.28-15.50~lp389040oga3-generic

1) playback through internal speakers: OK
2) speakers mute when headphones plugged in (and sound is heard through headphones): OK
3) recording through the internal mic: Not working
4) recording through an external mic: OK

With Ubuntu 2.6.28-15.50~lp389040oga2-generic

1) playback through internal speakers: OK
2) speakers mute when headphones plugged in (and sound is heard through headphones): OK
3) recording through the internal mic: OK
4) recording through an external mic: OK
