Same here, Karmic stops shuting down at "Checking unattended-upgrades *asking all remaining tasks to terminate". Latest updates from Today with the 31-7 Kernel.
My Gateway 5056b refuses to restart or to shut down from the begining (I started from Alfa3).
>From 31-7 after hard reset, fsck on karmic partition always reporting about errors (something about future time stamps in partition) . Errors disappearing after fsck on second boot.
