Laptop acer travelmate 240 celeron 2.6GHz
:~$ lsb_release -rd
Description:	Ubuntu intrepid (development branch)
Release:	8.10
~$ uname -a
Linux  2.6.27-4-generic #1 SMP Wed Sep 24 01:30:51 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux

When I want to turn off laptop dont shutdown,  but only the screen .

so I try from the command line shutdown -h 0 but I had the same problem 
but when I command shutdown -h 1 , laptop shutdown normally !
