I can't get camorama to work with this method:
   LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so camorama

but cheese seems to work with:
   LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so cheese

I agree, the picture quality is very bad.
