Sorry for wrong information about this error - my VIA controller works
with Interpid! :-)

I've forgotten that I've blacklisted pata_via module for Hardy kernel.
After removing pata_via from blacklist (and IDE modules from
/lib/modules/2.6.27-7-generic/) and re-installing latest linux-image
from Interpid everything works as expected. :-)
