I can confirm the bug in Hardy kernel 2.6.24-19-generic with an AMD 780G board with SB700 southbridge (A Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H). The bug only appears when using USB mass-storage devices. I have used the following script to recover from the error:
# modprobe -r ehci_hcd
# sleep 1
# modprobe ehci_hcd
I have just tried the following as described above:
# echo -1 > /sys/module/usbcore/parameters/autosuspend
And it seems to make the problem disappear :-)
