That went pretty badly for me (eee 901).  The elantech device was
clearly detected, but the touchpad configuration options were not
available in the mouse capplet (GNOME), and--much, much worse--the
touchpad was jumpy.  I.e. it would work seemingly alright for quick
movement over large distances, but trying to click on some little icon
or whatever was an exercise in futility, as the cursor would not move
for a good while as the stroke was occurring, then suddenly jump past
the point I was trying to get to.

I'm attaching dmesg and xorg.log output.
