Confirmed with Broadcom 4401 network card and ATI X1400 mobility card.
Also confirmed workaround of disabling compiz (system -> preferences ->
appearance ->  Visual Effects -> none) is an workaround.

I thought I was loosing my mind when everytime I'd visit CNN or
Break.com in firefox, it would cause my network connection to drop.
