I have the same issue with HP dv9608 laptop. It seems like usb problem on 2.6.27 kernel. Here is the link to solved Mandriva bug https://qa.mandriva.com/show_bug.cgi?id=45552
I hope this'll help Ubuntu teem to fix it soon.
