I have a Marvell Technology Group Ltd. 88E8056 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller (rev 12) running Ubuntu 8.10 x86.
Same problem as Wilbur, but Daniels trick does not work for me.
Only 100Mbps to to 3Com switch...
