Hello again. After having a discussion here:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=964359

I also want to note that in my testing I have found that this is not
limited to the LiveCD, it also affects the OS after installation.

We seem to have determined the following:

For some users, disabling cool n quiet in the BIOS allows the system to
boot without error. We also found that enabling cool n quiet but making
sure that every possible BIOS setting was at "auto" (no forced
multiplier, etc) also works. The theory is that powernowd doesn't like
having specified settings in the BIOS if cool n quiet is enabled, but is
fine with any settings if cool n quiet is disabled.

Hope this helps somehow.

One user reports that without changing any BIOS settings he was able to
get the LiveCD to boot off of a PATA optical drive but not a SATA one.
