Since the only message that appears anywhere with respect to the hotswap
bay is:
ata4: exception Emask 0x10 SAct 0x0 SErr 0x0 action 0xa frozen
ata4: ACPI event
on the console (not the logs), I thought that the following might have
some value. I had attached an eSATA drive on a SiiG eSATA ExpressCard.
When I powered off the drive (it was not mounted), the following
appeared in kern.log:

But when I pull a drive from the hotswap bay, we just get those two
lines to the console, and the system freezes.
