update: i have installed alsa with drivers from the alsa web site. The
probem persists after sucessfull install, so its not a alsa problem but
a kernel problem.

now i am back to ubuntu packages of alsa, still no sound.

- I have just updated kernel from 2.6.24-11 to 2.6.24-12 and now I've no
- more sound!
+ updated from kernel 2.6.24-11 to 2.6.24-12 brakes all sound! boot with

+ The kernel is unable to insert any correctly compiled and installed alsa
