Ever since the linux-restricted-modules was upgraded from version 2.6.24.5-4.12 I have been unable to boot kubuntu Hardy. I have tried version 2.6.24.6-4.15 and 2.6.24.6-5.16 on both kernel 2.6.24.4 and 2.6.24.5 and on all occasions the boot proceeds normally until 'Loading K display manager' after which I am left with nothing but a black screen. It is not possible to even get a console login from this point, the only option is to reboot with Ctl/Alt /Del. 
In order to continue using Hardy I have had to restore a disk image of the 2.6.24.4 kernel with linux-restricted-module 2.6.24.5-4.12 on it which works normally.

Kubuntu Hardy64bit, Intel 64bit dual core processor, ATI Radeon Mobility
X1600 graphics card..
