Public bug reported:

In the renning kernel configuration file (/boot/config-2.6.22-14-server) AUDIT configuration is incomplete. This causes a problem with auditctl.
This problem has been registered as Bug #140784. However, it has yet to be fixed. This I believe, is because it hasn't been looked at by the correct project.

The corrected line(s) in the kernel configuration file should read:

CONFIG_AUDIT=y
CONFIG_AUDITSYSCALL=y
CONFIG_AUDIT_GENERIC=y

#### HOWEVER #### One of these is not set. Specifically:

# CONFIG_AUDITSYSCALL is not set

Recommend ranking this as HIGH

** Affects: linux-meta (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
