After trying to connect please provide the output of
- dmesg
- lsmod|grep ndiswrapper
- ndiswrapper -v

Also make sure, that the rt73usb module is not loaded (check with lsmod|grep rt73usb)
Also try installing the latest ndiswrapper-version from source (http://ndiswrapper.sf.net) and providing the same output as requested above again (reboot or reload ndiswrapper in between).
