I have latest packages installed (including linux-ubuntu-modules 2.6.24-10.14), but this is still not fixed.
I have Dell D620 laptop with intel wireless:

$ lsmod | grep iwl
iwl3945                89844  0 
iwlwifi_mac80211      219876  1 iwl3945
cfg80211               15112  1 iwlwifi_mac80211


I have tested the same hardware under Windows XP, LED works as expected, so it is not hardware problem
