Hello,

I have had a similar problem. I use "ati radeon x1300 pro", "dell
2007wfp" with 1680x1050 at 60. I installed the ati driver by amd (the free
driver does not work for me). I have compiz installed and works almost
fine (except the image quality in cube is not good enough).

using radeonfb, vesafb and fbcon with default /boot/grub/menu.lst, i get
virtual terminals and xserver is on tty7. but if i use the boot-up
manager to change the dafault to "show bootloader", "show boot splash",
and "show text during boot" (note:all the three), then i get no virtual
terminal and gdm moves to tty9!

is this a different bug?

honestly, i do not see this as a major problem, but however wondered if
there is a solution to this.

i appreciate your response in advance. thanks. shahram.
