On 2.6.27-1-generic my computer no longer freezes when I remove a drive
from the modular bay!
There was an interesting dmesg:
[71146.238059] ata5.00: disabled
[71146.238090] ata5.00: detaching (SCSI 4:0:0:0)
[71146.238090] sd 4:0:0:0: [sdb] Synchronizing SCSI cache
[71146.238090] sd 4:0:0:0: [sdb] Result: hostbyte=DID_BAD_TARGET driverbyte=DRIVER_OK,SUGGEST_OK
[71146.238090] sd 4:0:0:0: [sdb] Stopping disk
[71146.238090] sd 4:0:0:0: [sdb] START_STOP FAILED
[71146.238090] sd 4:0:0:0: [sdb] Result: hostbyte=DID_BAD_TARGET driverbyte=DRIVER_OK,SUGGEST_OK
I then inserted a DVD Drive and it seemed to work fine. Removing the
DVD caused gvfs-hal-volume-monitor to crash. I then reinserted my hard
drive and it seemed to work.
So I'd say that for now this bug is closed for Intrepid.
