Please give as some more information so we can try to find where the problem is.
Can you post the exact kernel versions who recognize the soundcard and which doesn't?
What soundcard are you using? Maybe you can post the output of dmesg for both kernels (working and not working)
Did you also try with a ubuntu live cd?
