You have been subscribed to a public bug:

The fan worked excellent for about 14 months with previous
kernels/modules/...

I'm using Xubuntu 6.06.1, now kernel 2.6.15-29:

uname -a
Linux asux 2.6.15-29-686 #1 SMP PREEMPT Wed Aug 29 13:42:01 UTC 2007 i686 GNU/Linux

cat /proc/version
Linux version 2.6.15-29-686 (buildd at terranova) (gcc version 4.0.3 (Ubuntu 4.0.3-1ubuntu5)) #1 SMP PREEMPT Wed Aug 29 13:42:01 UTC 2007

cat /proc/acpi/fan/FN00/state
status: off
# but in reality, it's on. On, on, on!

cat /proc/acpi/thermal_zone/THRM/temperature
temperature: 39 C

I'd like to attach a dmesg, a lspci -vvnn, an lsmod and a ps ax - log.
I hope the next page gives me opportunity.

In former times (about 2 or 3 weeks ago) the fan was allmost allways silent.
Did a little rotation, and felt asleep again.

1 or 2 weeks ago, it changed.
While booting, the fan is going off, even when starting X11 and showing the X11-greeting-screen for login.
In most cases after logging in and starting the session, the fan comes up again, and will not stop.
But I noticed it starting a bit later.
However, it will not stop, but cat /proc/acpi/fan/FN00/state show: status: off.

Going into suspends starts as expected, the screen is getting dark, and everything seems normal, but the fan is still turning.
Wakeup fails.

I guess it worked with 2.6.15-28, but I don't reboot often - even after
updating the kernel, I sometimes keep going for another 1 or 2 weeks, so
I'm not sure, which update triggered the behaviour.
