[Bug 138009] no display after Kernel 2.6.20-15-generic

Binary package hint: linux-amd64-generic

nVidia video drivers were successfully loaded in kernel 2.6.20-15-generic
no issues.

Update into kernel 2.6.20-15-generic was unable to display login window even after 3min. No login "drumbeat" sound was heard.
Work-around using Answers in Launchpad, listed below, proved futile

Returned to use kernel 2.6.20-15-generic.
