Unfortunately, fixing this isn't straightforward, and requires designing a
different solution, documenting it, and hopefully pushing it up to Debian to
avoid diverging forever.  As Colin notes, it also affects the installer.

As such, I don't think it's practical to target it for 7.10.  I think this
would be a natural target for 8.04 LTS though.
