Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-restricted-modules

When showing movies in vlc, gmplayer or totem, the video is played
partly outside the window at the lower side (as can been seen in the
attachment).

After experimentations with displayconfig-gtk (with title "Screen and
Graphics") I noticed this difference is related to the ATI restricted
driver and the effect varies upon changing display resolutions.

Using model: LCD Panel 1600x1200 (widescreen)
Resolution: 1280x1024 at 60Hz --> shows half of the move outside the window
Resolution: 1024x768 at 60Hz --> shows the complete movie outside the window

Using model: LCD Panel 1680x1050 (widescreen)
Resolution: 1680x1050 at 60Hz --> almost shows the movie inside the window

Noticed that it only seems to concern playing movies (and in a player).
The remaining desktop and even flash movies inside firefox are displayed without any problems.

Another problem shows when I open a second movie (using either vlc,
gmplayer or totem without having to be of the same player as the first)
then the first player also shows the last opened movie.. this first
movie is replaced by it, however the audio of the first is still
playing. Closing the last movie leaves the first player only showing a
green area.

When I disable the ATI restricted driver and use the generic vesa driver, all three vlc, gmplayer and totem show the movie like they should:
- inside the window.
- and opening a second movie is displayed separately.

But the vesa driver can only handle 1280x1024, at 1680x1050 it won't
display the entire screen properly.

Using model: Plug 'n' Play
Resolution: 1280x1024 at 61Hz

I experiences this on a Dell 6400 Inspiron 6400 laptop with:
- 1680x1050 WSXGA TFT screen
- videocard:256MB ATI Mobility Radeon X1400
- Ubuntu Gutsu 7.10 (updated upto 14 nov 2007)
  linux-restricted-modules-2.6.22-14-generic 2.6.22.4-14.10
  linux-restricted-modules-common 2.6.22.4-14.10
